In recent years, that number of collision repair facilities in the U.S. has steadied, as economic recovery, miles driven, extreme winter weather, and improved new vehicle sales began to drive up auto accident frequency. In this month’s CCC Trends Susanna discusses consolidation in the collision repair industry and the challenges from complex material types and increasing vehicle complexity facing repairers. In 2015, the collision repair industry continued to see a great deal of multi-store operator (MSO) acquisition activity. Large MSO consolidators were active with multiple collision repair organizations locations in multiple states being acquired. The pace of change among vehicles today is changing ever faster, and requiring repairers to get training, tooling, equipment and certification to deal with a growing number of complex material types as well as increasing electronic complexity.
